Is there a way to obscure the surface of a clear acrylic lamp cover? To stop the glare of the bulb within?

For example some sort of paint spray or etching fluid ?

Many ways to do it - you can buy a spray 'misting coat' or the harder version 'frosting coat' - available from Focus DIY stores - another method - although it carries some risk of failure is to use a fine wire wool over the entire surface - this puts fine scratches onto the surface of the acrylic - but be warned - this is not for the novice - it takes practice - another option is to buy a sheet of plastic opaque film - again from a DIY store - it is self adhesive and you lay it flat and 'roll' the lamp cover over the sticky side and trim the excess off - this only really works on conventional trumpet shaped covers
