MPs have been issued with a 10-point guide on what to do if they find a broken light bulb in Parliament.
An MP wanted to know ';what guidance has been issued on procedures for cleaning up and disposing of environmentally-friendly light bulbs which have been broken';.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jht鈥?/a>Do MPs' need a guide to clearing up broken light bulbs?
hi, maybe they should get a guide on how to transfer confidential details safelyDo MPs' need a guide to clearing up broken light bulbs?
Energy saving lampbulbs contain mercury and bismuth and have various other unpleasant substances in the circuit board. They are certainly not environmentally friendly.
I honestly do not know what to say to this. I wish they had a guide on how to listen to their constituents, how to vote in the commons for things they beleive in and not be bullied into things they don't. I wish they had a guide on how to stop making this country into a sess pit for all and sundry,I wish they had a guide on how to get rid of prime ministers that are crap. There are loads of thing I wish they had a guide for. Just shows how stupid they are and they are running the country and wasting tax payers money.Give me strength, do I need a guide to get this.

Shouldn't the manufacturers of flourescent screw-in light bulbs put a clear coating in case of breakage?
As a replacement for incandescent bulbs with a filament, I do see the logic in using less electricity/ replacing less often/ saving some money....
....but the steps required to clean up after breaking a flourescent bulb due to the mercury release seems a real ordeal- %26amp; who goes the full nine yards as mentioned in this article:

I think that has been blown way out of proportion. The mercury in those bulbs is less than a standard fluorescent tube we have been using in our offices and garages for many years.

People should be more careful. I hate how everything has to be made for the safety of the complete moron in mind. My favorite hiking trail was recently closed because some fool decided it would be fun to slide down an embankment. The trail is now deemed ';unsafe'; because of his foolish actions.
I pretty much agree with ablex...
but, i do not think it would hurt to put a plastic coating and it would noy be expensive at all.....
to add to what ablex said.....
The amount of mercury in those bulbs is more than offset by decreasing the amount of mercury emmissions from coal fired power plants by needin less power.
But then again, every little bit helps. So lets coat them too!
She went threw 2 much trouble and spent too much money she could have cleaned this up her self with a mask that you get at a doctors office and a broom and dust pan. The vacuum would have just put it in the air but safe to use after words. She should have called a company that recycles Lamps. Yes it need to be contained after clean up but it is easy to do that it would have cost her 100 dollars in the end.
Plastic will yellow when exposed to warm temperatures. This causes these bulbs to be worthless even sooner.
It's bad enough that these bulbs become dim after just 3 or 4 months already. I have incandescent bulbs that are 15 years old.

Which is better or brighter: clear or frost electric bulbs?
Frost i believe. Clear always leaves a musky damp look to me that's semi lighted.Which is better or brighter: clear or frost electric bulbs?
if clear it will almost be the same as in home , if frost it will be a like to some of the restaurantWhich is better or brighter: clear or frost electric bulbs?
I like the frost one, I think they're nicer
It would really depend on what you would need to use it for, if you want to dim a particular location in your house for a moody and subtle effect then the best way to go is the frosted electric bulb, they provide just enough light to highlight what is directly beneath them. Now if your going for luminicity or need a general all around light for the room or house then you would be better of using the clear one, but personally speaking if this was the case i would rather go for a flourescent lamp since it requires less electricity thereby saving you on your electric bills soon after
frost,i guess.
clear if you want to be able to see
frost for a ';mood'; like in some resaurants
frost is much better

Why are infrared bulbs red or clear in color?
Clear works fine, but I think they use red for visual effect, since when people see red bulbs they know they are infrared. Clear bulbs, you may have to read the box or the imprint on the top to know it is infrared. Clear bulbs could easily be just spotlights so by being red in color people associate it easier with infrared.
Red is not a block to infrared wavelengths, so the infrared passes thru unimpeded. Clear of course, lets all colors come thru too. Clear is probably cheaper for a manufacturer to make but red is more recognizable

Hoping that someone can help.
Yes, I have tried Google/Froogle etc.
Thanks.Replacement clear push-in bulbs for Christmas lights.?
It is the buld number that is important not the dimensions as these are nominal, try B%26amp;Q,Homebase,Focus,Asda,Tesco or Sainsbury'sReplacement clear push-in bulbs for Christmas lights.?
I wish you luck.
I have found it is often cheaper to trow a set of lights away and buy a new set than try to get a replacement lamp, that is assuming the blown lamp will come out of its holder leaving the holder still intact. Yes I know its wasteful, but if the lights are cheap and a new lamp + postage is 1/3 the cost of the whole set whats the point, 4 lamps gone, = new set all singing all dancing lights
